Our Festival History

Film by... began as Film by the Sea - a short film festival for a small community of schools in Sydney South. For our first year in 2011 we showcased 26 films from 16 schools.

In 2018 we became Film by...State Short Film Festivals with 10 affiliated festivals held across NSW and one in Ottawa, Canada. By 2020, Film by Festivals and communities were established in over 20 locations. 

When COVID-19 impacted many school celebrations, our online presence grew with marquee events such as Film by Invitation for Education Week and the Film by Online 2020 Festival Series.

In 2021 we will be continuing to grow and support more community and online festivals and events.
